Transportation

Within the SECORE network, we routinely transport coral larvae from field laboratories to members' institutes. We also exchange primary polyps or brood stock colonies between institutes around the world.

The transportation of coral material is essential for establishing sexual coral recruits and breeding stock in a substantial number of public aquaria. Since the international trade of reefbuilding corals (scleractinians) is regulated by law following the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), we intensively work together with the CITES authorities of the participating countries.
